Exploring Hyperbaric Oxygen, HOCATT, FSM, and PEMF at O2 Renew Studio
Living with Parkinson's disease can affect much more than movement. Muscle stiffness, fatigue, poor sleep, and changes in balance or coordination can make everyday activities more challenging.
At O2 Renew Studio, we believe in supporting the whole person. Our innovative wellness therapies offer additional ways to focus on physical comfort, relaxation, and overall well-being.
Research into hyperbaric oxygen therapy and electromagnetic stimulation has produced encouraging findings for Parkinson's disease, particularly in areas such as movement, sleep, and cognitive function.
While these therapies are not cures or replacements for medical treatment, they are being explored as complementary approaches to neurological wellness.
Understanding Parkinson's Disease
Parkinson's disease affects brain cells that produce dopamine, a chemical that helps control movement. As these cells decline, everyday activities can become more difficult.
Common symptoms include:
- Tremors and shaking
- Muscle stiffness and discomfort
- Slower movement and difficulty walking
- Balance and coordination challenges
- Fatigue and low energy
- Difficulty sleeping
- Brain fog and memory changes
- Anxiety and changes in mood
Researchers have also found that inflammation, oxidative stress, and changes in how brain cells produce energy may contribute to Parkinson's disease.
These discoveries have led scientists to investigate therapies that may support brain health and physical function.
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy: Supporting Brain Health, Movement, and Sleep
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy involves breathing oxygen inside a pressurized chamber. The increased pressure allows additional oxygen to dissolve into the bloodstream, making more oxygen available to the body's tissues.
Because the brain relies heavily on oxygen to function, researchers have investigated whether hyperbaric oxygen therapy could help people living with Parkinson's disease.
How Has Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Helped People With Parkinson's?
Movement and Coordination
Parkinson's affects the brain's ability to control smooth, coordinated movement. Clinical studies have reported improvements in movement-related assessments following hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
Sleep Quality
Sleep problems are common among people with Parkinson's. Research has reported improvements in sleep quality, sleep duration, and daytime sleepiness following HBOT.
Memory and Mental Clarity
Studies have found improvements in memory, attention, and other measures of cognitive function.
Brain Cell Health
Researchers are exploring whether increased oxygen availability may help support cellular energy production and influence inflammation and oxidative stress in the brain.
What Does the Research Show?
A 2025 review of 13 studies involving 958 people with Parkinson's disease reported improvements in movement, cognitive function, and sleep following hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
Another 2025 review involving 1,324 participants found encouraging results in sleep, mood, memory, swallowing, and motor function.
These findings offer reasons for continued research into HBOT as a complementary therapy for Parkinson's disease.
The studies used different treatment protocols and pressures. While the findings are promising, they do not establish that every HBOT protocol will produce the same benefits or that lower-pressure wellness chambers provide equivalent results.
What to Expect During Your Session
At O2 Renew Studio, you'll relax in a recliner inside our comfortable hyperbaric chamber.
As the chamber gradually pressurizes, you may feel a gentle change in your ears, similar to flying in an airplane. Our team will explain the process and help you remain comfortable.
Once the chamber reaches the appropriate pressure, you can rest quietly throughout your session.
PEMF Therapy: Encouraging Research for Movement and Mobility
Pulsed Electromagnetic Field (PEMF) therapy uses gentle electromagnetic pulses that interact with the body's cells and tissues.
Research involving people with Parkinson's disease has shown encouraging results, including improvements in certain aspects of movement and physical function.
How Has PEMF Helped People With Parkinson's?
Movement and Mobility
In a clinical study, some individuals with milder Parkinson's symptoms showed improvement in their ability to produce force when standing up from a chair. This is encouraging because everyday movements can become increasingly challenging for people with Parkinson's.
Muscle Function
Researchers observed improvements in a specific measure of muscle force production, suggesting that certain types of electromagnetic stimulation may positively influence aspects of physical performance.
Daily Activities and Quality of Life
Additional research from the same group of participants found improvements in selected measures of mobility and daily activities. These findings offer hope for approaches focused on maintaining physical function and independence.
What Does the Research Show?
A clinical trial involving 97 people with Parkinson's disease examined PEMF therapy delivered to the head for 30 minutes daily over eight weeks.
The study found that participants with milder Parkinson's symptoms experienced a modest improvement in one measure of force production during movement. Although other movement measures did not show significant improvement, the findings provide encouraging early evidence for specific PEMF applications.
These encouraging findings highlight the potential of PEMF therapy for supporting movement and physical function in people with Parkinson's. While the studies used a different type of PEMF technology than our HUGO system, they provide a promising foundation for continued research into electromagnetic therapies and neurological wellness.
What to Expect During Your PEMF Session
At O2 Renew Studio, PEMF therapy is available both as part of our comprehensive HOCATT Platinum session and as a standalone HUGO PEMF experience.
During a standalone HUGO session, you'll relax comfortably on a PEMF mat while the system delivers gentle, programmed electromagnetic pulses.
The session is noninvasive, requires very little physical effort, and allows you to rest comfortably throughout your experience.
Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM): Focusing on Muscle Comfort
Muscle stiffness, tension, and discomfort are common challenges for people living with Parkinson's disease.
Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM) is a gentle therapy that delivers very low levels of electrical current through electrodes or conductive towels placed on the body.
Different frequencies are selected according to the areas and wellness goals being addressed.
How May FSM Support Physical Comfort?
Muscle Discomfort
FSM has been studied for its effects on muscle soreness and pain. This makes it an area of interest for individuals seeking additional ways to support physical comfort.
Tension and Stiffness
Parkinson's-related muscle rigidity can make everyday movement uncomfortable. Although FSM has not been shown to reduce Parkinson's rigidity specifically, it may be worth exploring for general muscle discomfort.
Relaxation
FSM is a gentle, low-exertion experience that allows you to rest comfortably throughout the session.
What Does the Research Show?
A 2010 clinical study involving 35 participants found that FSM significantly reduced muscle soreness following exercise compared with untreated muscles.
Other research has explored FSM for lower back pain and other musculoskeletal concerns.
Our FSM system also includes specialized programs labeled Parkinson's Support and Parkinson's Temporary Relief for Tremors. These programs are designed with Parkinson's-related wellness goals in mind, giving clients the option of a more targeted microcurrent session.
What to Expect During Your FSM Session
FSM can be scheduled separately from HOCATT at O2 Renew Studio.
You'll rest comfortably while electrodes or conductive towels are placed on selected areas of your body.
The device delivers gentle microcurrents using programmed frequencies. Most people feel little or no sensation during the session.
HOCATT Platinum: A Comprehensive Whole-Body Wellness Experience
For individuals interested in a broader wellness experience, our HOCATT Platinum combines several technologies into one session.
HOCATT incorporates steam, infrared heat, ozone, carbon dioxide, PEMF, FSM and other wellness modalities designed to support relaxation, circulation, and physical comfort.
What to Expect During Your HOCATT Session
During your session, you'll sit inside a specialized chamber while your head remains outside the enclosure.
Warm steam surrounds your body while selected wellness technologies operate throughout the session.
Our team will explain the experience beforehand, help you get comfortable, and monitor your session.
